Description
Prattsville, a town in the northwestern part of the Catskills in New York, was established in 1824 and is named after Zadock Pratt, a businessman who founded and ran one of the largest tanneries in the world. The tannery created many jobs and literally put Prattsville on the map. The town was nearly destroyed by the ravages of Hurricane Irene, but due to the hard work and persistence of the inhabitants, a good part of it was restored. Many houses and businesses were beyond salvaging, however. The Balsam Tree Farm was one of them.
